"Life is a huge farce, and the advantage of possessing a sense of humour is that it enables one to defy fate with mocking laughter."

TETHERED CAMEL PUBLISHERS

Every now and then you chance upon a small publishing house specialising in something quite extraordinary - I guess I can feel an affinity with TETHERED CAMEL because they're publishing reprints of the TOFF novels by John CReasey, who also wrote under a number of pseudonyms, including J J Marric and eight others. The first six Toff titles are available now, along with books by Norah Lofts, Joyce Stranger and Elizabeth Goudge. This is a great little imprint - the quality of the printing is second-to-none, and Tethered Camel have just been awarded the contract to publish the Narnia books in Russian! John Creasey (1908 - 1973) is an inspiration to the aspiring author. He had 743 rejection slips before his first book was published - but he never gave up. By the time of his death in 1973 he had become the world’s most prolific author with 562 books in print.

John’s speciality was crime and mystery and he always looked for a resolution at the end of his books. The traditional ‘good guy wins over bad guy.’ Even in his classic ‘Department Z’ series where the enigmatic Dr Palfrey struggles to save the world from terrible plagues saw a resolution at the end of each disaster.

Tethered Camel began re-publishing John Creasey’s work with ‘The Toff’ series in June 2004 and will publish books from The Toff, Gideon, Inspector West and Dr. Palfrey series in 2005.

WHY 'TETHERED CAMEL?

'Trust God but tether your camel' is an ancient Arabian proverb which means that the Universe expects you to take responsibility for yourself as well as trusting in Divine help. Makes sense, we think.

Tethered Camel is a profitable and loved independent publisher which disseminates true knowledge and inspiration, is ethical in its dealings and prospers all who come into contact with it.

Submitting to Gateway: Basically, all you need do is e-mail it along and I'll consider it - it can be any length, if it's very long I'll serialise it, if it's medium-length I'll put it in as a novella, if it's a short story or a feature article it will go in as it comes. Payment is zero, I'm afraid, as I don't make any money from Gateway, I do it all for fun!
