The Wandering Men is a group of writers who have written a novel called SKEIN OF SHADOWS, based on a role-playing game campaign setting, CROWN: CITY OF THE FALLEN from by DARK QUEST GAMES. What makes them different is that they have also written a series of great adventures based on their own experiences but drawing on fantasy and sword-and-sorcery novels from the genres rich past. If you like Robert E Howard or even, dare I say it, John Norman (before he went slightly mad), then these novels are terrific fun and encapsulate much of what you are likely to find in the game. The Wandering Men is a group of writers and adventurers who
seek to not only write great fiction, but also enter the world and explore the
remote places, the high peaks, and the lost cities within. By climbing those
peaks, wading the mud, swimming the salt-marshes, and sitting about a fire days
away from civilization, the Wandering Men have gained the experiences that add
reality to our stories. We know what it feels like to be wet and cold trudging
up a mist-enshrouded mountain, and so can describe that in our stories.
No..and yes. The Wandering Men work together as a group and
make decisions accordingly. However, as we take on a project, a member tends to
take the reigns and guides the group through that project. In this way, we can
handle several projects at once, with each member spearheading a specific job.
We collaborate on fiction projects designed around a
client's needs. We also explore the world. We will take on adventure projects
freelance as well. Have pack, will travel.
The Wandering Men have experienced much of which we write
about. We can empathetically write about trials a series of characters endure.
In addition, we have a broad realm of experience and research which gives fully
three dimensional writing. Will the ship be correct? Will swords operate as
they really would? Are the races reflecting appropriate characteristics? With
the Wandering Men, they will.
Presently, the Wandering Men has written Skein of Shadows
which is to be published by Dark
Quest Games this fall. Within this novel are the novellas Vendetta,
Fiend Fighter, Seaborn Sentinel, The Bonds that Bind Us,
and Tenet's Tale. A sequel to Skein is in the works, as well as other
projects with Dark Quest and other publishers (to be announced when permitted).
In addition, the Wandering Men are working on an article about Fort Saint
Philip, built by the Spanish in the 18th century and to be featured in North
South Trader in 2008.
Several group projects are in the pipe and will appear
within the next year. Even so, we are able to take on any size projects, from
full-length novels to short story anthologies. What ever the client needs.
The Wandering Men provide a complete package for any
customer. We can provide fully-edited fiction as well as first quality art and
graphics to fill any need.
Clients contact us with a proposal. The Wandering Men then
review the project and whether or not it fits in with the scope of our services
as well as whether or not it is up to our standards.
At the present, the Wandering Men is a closed group.
However, we do open our adventures to folks who are up to the challenge. On our
last journey, which took us dodging ocean-going freighters in small kayaks
across the Mississippi River to bush-whack through heavy brush to explore
Spanish ruins, we were joined by several hearty explorers who are not members
of "The Wandering Men" but who are close and dear friends. Who knows
what happens after that?

Basically, there's no connection other than the fact that
Dark Quest Games (DQG) is the publisher for our first collaborative novel, Skein
of Shadows. We're working very closely with the publisher in the
marketing and publicity, departments, however which is likely the cause for the
confusion. Skein of Shadows (the novel) is based on a Campaign
Setting called Crown that is also being published by DQG.
Vendetta
Elves have human generations to perfect their craft, and Arastin's chosen
profession is death. An expert assassin, he's orchestrated the demise of
hundreds, but the years of constant vigilance have worn on him. It's time to
give up the trade but he's approached for one last job: assassinate a member of
the Iceskull League. A vile group lead by white dragons, the League has plagued
Crown on numerous occasions, and more importantly -- ages ago they drove the
elves from their ancestral lands and destroyed their way of life.
The hook is baited, there's no one better suited – it’s a matter of revenge.
But the job is a sham, Arastin finds himself an unwilling pawn in a complex plot
that threatens all of Crown, and he hates being had. The fate of the city rests
on this unlikely hero's shoulders. Fiend Fighter
There is always excitement every week at The Broken Valor, where
gladiators fight for wealth, fame, or simply survival. Gold passes hands with
every fight, and the were-rats perform their grim duty on the corpses of the
losers. But for Farulazar, a dwarf expelled from the dwarvish fortress known as
Dwarfhome, pit fighting is just a job, a lousy, stinking job. Each week he
fights and then spends his winnings on drink, biding his time until the next
match. Once every year, in commemoration of the beginning of the Demon Scourge,
he marches into the pits to slay yet another fiend. It is what he does, for he
is Farulazar Fiend Fighter. As the annual demon fights draw nigh, a storm has descended on Crown. For
Farulazar, a storm of a different kind begins to form inside him. His
manipulative partner, Alfem is a halfling with dark secrets. Strangely, an
assassin has wounded him a week before he is to fight a demon. Convinced that
Alfem arranged the attack, Farulazar sets out to discover his motives. What the
Fiend Fighter discovers sends him in a pursuit which could cost him his life and
bring destruction to Crown.
